Distance Education
in Afghanistan
- Distance learning is an educational process that occurs when instruction is delivered to students physically remote from the location or campus of program origin, the main campus, or the primary resources that support instruction. In this process, the requirements for a course or program may be completed through remote communications with instructional and support staff including either one-way or two-way written, electronic or other media forms.

- Education
- In order for a country to become a player in the worldwide
market, its
people must be healthy and well-educated. So, after decades of turmoil,
Afghanistan is rebuilding? not only with bricks and mortar, but also with
books and computers. An investment in education is the key to rebuilding the
country and setting it on the path to sovereignty.
Yet, Afghanistan does have a long way to go and cannot create a thriving
educational system on its own. More than 70 percent of the country?s
educational infrastructure has been destroyed as a part of the political and
religious upheaval since the 1980?s. Out of the close to five thousand
existing school buildings, more than three thousand need major repairs? and
Afghanistan is lacking good teachers, textbooks, and educational technology.
According to education authorities in Afghanistan, some one and a half
million school-age children cannot attend classes because there are not
enough resources.
The aid community has responded to the need. Since 2002, USAID has printed
over 48.5 million textbooks and is in the process of printing 11 million
more. It has helped train over 6,800 teachers and enrolled over 170,000 over
age and out of school students. Still, with all these accomplishments,
Afghanistan still needs more resources to compete. That is why AFTIG is
committed to using your strategic investment in education to advance
Afghanistan?s education system, so the country can participate in the
worldwide society.
Your investment could go a long way toward helping Afghanistan reach its
educational goals for the future. Some of
these goals include building a
teacher training school in every province. The need for training is high and
a more sufficient solution is needed. Another goal is to improve schools
through computers and the World Wide Web. Computer use continues to increase
on a global scale?and so, to stay on the map, a country needs to use the
latest technology. Monetary resources will help Afghanistan raise the level
of academics. New technology will enhance the library system, make recording
academic information easier, and enhance every student?s level of knowledge.
Afghanistan has a bright future ahead?and investments by entrepreneurial
companies will help the country realize that future even faster. Your
investment might be the catalyst that will accelerate Afghanistan?s
educational goals.
